EDUCATIONAL ACCESS AT CARNEY POOLS AND UPPER MORETON FARM

A learning centre for young people was officially opened by the Mayor of Stafford Borough Councillor Brian Price on 25th July 2007.

The staff of Carney Pools enjoy teaching all people, especially children.

We hope that visits to the wildlife pools and our working farm will give children the chance to learn about their countryside and where food comes from in a safe "fun" environment.

The farm and pool sites will offer excellent opportunities for studying subjects in the National Curriculum and beyond, as well as the chance to enjoy the experience of being outdoors in the countryside.

BOOKING A VISIT FOR 2010

Visits are open to all schools, groups and organisations.

Arrange a *free visit for your school, youth group or organisation by contacting Carol Carney at: candc.carney@virgin.net

STAFFORDSHIRE YOUTH ANGLERS AWARDS AFTERNOON

Saturday 14th November 2009

Everyone gathered for the presentation afternoon. There was a full house with special guest Gary Knowles from the Angling Times who had kindly given up his Saturday to give a slide presentation about river and still water fishing.

His talk was very inspiring and full of angling tips, for someone like myself who knows very little about angling I thought it was most interesting and well presented.

His talk was completed with a brillant quiz and several winners received supper prizes donated by Gary Knowles himself.

A buffet lunch followed and then it was the actual presentations of awards. All the youngests had been working on different angling techiniques which included pole, feeder rod and waggler fishing. I have probably missed out some but I am no angler!

Everyone received a certificate presented by Gary Knowles or Eric Drinkwater and many photos taken. The afternoon was finished off with some special thank yous.

A great day was had by all - myself included!

WILDLIFE POOL PROJECT

Staffordshire Youth Anglers have been working all winter 2008 on a wildlife pond project which they have designed and developed with other youth groups and those with disabilities in mind. The site, to be called Railway Meadow Ponds is based at Carney Pools.

It was created from a natural water logged area, close to the railway embankment. Now it boasts native trees, willow structures, two wildlife ponds, a pond dipping platform, bird and bat boxes, pathways all around the area suitable for wheelchairs, parking and a superb life-sized willow angler.

NEWS ON THE WILDLIFE POOLS PROJECT
SATURDAY 25TH APRIL 2009

The wet start did not dampen the team spirits of the Staffordshire Youth Anglers' wildlife ponds open day.

The day was a really great success, the club raising funds to ensure the running of the project for another year.

We were honoured to have Les Webber from The Angling Projects, who had travelled many miles to be with us.

We believe that he was very impressed with the project, so much that he gave a national radio interview Sunday morning (26th April 2009) encouraging all groups and schools to come along and visit the wildlife ponds project to see what a brillant effort the club had made.

A thank you to M P David Kidney who has visited the club several times over the last two years.

Cllr Eric Drinkwater and his wife Shirley were special guests on the day. Eric and his wife have followed the project from the beginning and have given their support even on the coldest of days.
